The color green makes me happy!

Am sitting at the computer to do my homework for "Children with Disabilities" online course. Feeling completely wiped though. Had an action-packed day, went running, and now feeling relaxed from grilled cheese and tomato soup cafeteria dinner.

My run was good, lately my mind wanders with random topics. I think and think and think, then the run's over before I know it. Today, like Jazzybelle, I was thinking about friends and family - how beautiful it is that I have so many loved ones that it's really work to keep in touch with everyone. The other runners and bikers grinned at me cuz I was probably smiling to myself. :)

I thought about adoption and celebrities and Katrina. Last night, one of the RAs (an older lady) gave me an issue of National Geographic, and pointed out an article to read. From the pictures, it appeared to be another heart-breaking story of the New Orleans tragedy. It talked about 25-foot high waves, 80 percent of the city being under water, where thousands drowned, and thousands more dying of dehydration and disease from the dirty water. The thousands of people who didn't leave town during the warnings, because they were carless, homeless, or loyal to their homes. Then I glanced at the front cover - October 2004? Sure enough, the next line in the article was something like, "this hasn't happened yet, but it will sooner than we think." Some weather experts had predicted the devastation - I had chills! The fact that they had any idea something this huge would happen blows my mind. Anything can happen anywhere... we just gotta keep on living without fear.

The State Fairgrounds are across from ISD campus - about 500 refugees are there now in temporary housing. We'll be bringing water and supplies throughout the week.

On a lighter note, work is going really well! This morning, we had a department meeting and a French-themed breakfast. Croissants, eclairs, quiche, parfaits, cafe... yum! I snuck away later to the upper-school assembly, to hear Dr. Paddy Ladd (deaf British researcher) speak about his new book. Check it out - "Deafhood." (in his words, 'deafness' is a condition, 'deafhood' is an experience, like motherhood and childhood.. hmm)

Stacey just told me the Sorenson guy is installing VP at her house now! Can't wait to see Kayla-la on TV!
