mhmm... melted cheese...

As a junk food lover born and raised in Montreal, one of the culinary capitals of Canada, imagine my delight when my dear, thoughtful friend sent me this in an email:

"Eat Wonky – One of the newest additions to the [food truck] scene. This truck most notably serves up Poutine – A Canadian dish consisting of French Fries covered in brown gravy and cheese curds. http://eatwonky.co.cc/"

OH.MY.GOSH. I was ALL over this one!

Whenever I travel to Montreal (or Toronto), it is a given that I have Poutine at least twice a day.  Preferably from here:

Or here:

So bad and yet so good. In fact, that is exactly what I did last weekend when I was in town for an alumni event at my former school for the deaf.  My former classmates and teachers know me well enough to ask throughout the evening, "did you have your Poutine yet?".  Even when a group of us went up to the country for the rest of the weekend, two of my friends, who have grown into such gentlemen, went into the city to pick up some fries, cheese curds, and gravy for my farewell lunch.  *sighs* happiness.

Anyway, back to the Wonky truck!! I follow them on Twitter and my heart aches whenever they announce their location.  So near and yet so far.  They're usually just a short train ride away, but I cannot justify leaving work to make the trip at lunchtime.  The other day, I happened to have my car with me (I usually ride the metro to work), and the Wonky truck location turned out to be a a 10 minute drive away! Without hesitation, I grabbed my keys, hopped in the car, wove through traffic, parked illegally, and skipped up to the truck counter - "one Poutine, please!!" with a huge *grin* on my face.

Although it wasn't as perfect as the Montreal version, it was still warm, soft, salty, gooey, greasy..... heaven.
